Dalponte signs with Gordon College

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Columbus Blue Devil baseball standout Tony Dalponte signed a national letter of intent to play collegiate baseball at Gordon College Friday afternoon at school.

Dalponte—who hit .615 in the Blue Devils' 2013 playoff run—said it was the tradition that helped him make his decision.

"Gordon is just an overall great school," Dalponte said. "hey have my academic major in there, which is pre-dental hygiene, and I want to go there. They'll play me in the spot that I want to. It's just overall good structure, and overall background for good baseball."

Dalponte will play third base at Gordon.

The Highlanders are located in Barnesville, Ga., and play in the ultra-competitive NJCAA, a fact Dalponte is excited about.

"I'm really excited," he said. "I know I have to step up because their level of game is a lot faster and quicker, which I'm really looking forward to, because during summer ball I play with bigger teams with faster pitching and I'm looking forward to this big challenge just to face."
