RALEIGH, N.C. -

An unmarked Raleigh Police vehicle checking on an emergency call made an improper right turn Saturday and struck another vehicle, according to police.

Raleigh Police officer Isaac Perez Jr. was driving on North Raleigh Boulevard at Milburnie Road and turned in front of a car driving by Josefina Hernandez Herrera of Raleigh. Herrera's car struck Perez' vehicle and then Perez hit a utility pole.

Herrera was charged with not having a valid operator's license and having a passenger less than 16 years old in the car with an appropriate restraint system.

The investigation is continuing, Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.
