Inmate killed in state prison; another inmate is a suspect

BESSEMER, AL -

An Alabama prison inmate is considered a suspect in the death of another inmate.

The Alabama Department of Corrections reports the homicide happened Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer.

Inmate Anthony Jones died of stab wounds after an altercation with another inmate in Housing Unit O.

Jones was pronounced dead about 8:00pm CT.

A prison made knife believed to have been used in the crime has been recovered.

Jones was serving a life sentence for manslaughter out of Jefferson County.

Inmate Albert James Evans is in custody as a suspect.

Evans is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for attempted murder out of Jefferson County.

An autopsy will be done to determine the actual cause of death.

Donaldson is a maximum security prison housing approximately 1,500 inmates.
