Lightning sparks fire at East Raleigh apartments

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh firefighters are on the scene of a powerful apartment fire on Calumet Drive near New Bern Avenue in Raleigh Tuesday afternoon.

The fire department said lightning was the cause of the fire that caused damage to eight units. 

The Red Cross said it was helping 19 people who were displaced by the fire after eight apartments were damaged.

Firefighters has to pull out of the building when the building collapsed. No injuries have been reported in the fire.

The fire was out by 4:20 p.m. thanks to the efforts of 50 firefighters.

The fire could be seen and smelled from the Beltline.
