Ireland Nugent & parents reunite with first responders in Largo

Posted: Updated:
LARGO, FL (WFLA) -

Almost six weeks since her father accidentally ran over her with a riding lawn mower, Ireland Nugent and her family visited the first-responders who rushed to her Palm Harbor house on April 11th. "We couldn't say thank you enough. Her life just means more to us than anything," said Ireland's mother, Nichole.

Paramedic, Christopher Jennings remembers the emotion he felt as he worked on Ireland. "I can personally remember hearing the father screaming in the background which made tears well up in my eyes cuz I can only imagine how he felt," Jenning said.

Before paramedics arrived, next-door neighbor and nurse, Aly Smith jumped to stop the bleeding. "I'm very glad that I was there and I do know that I did help her some. I think there was a lot of things bigger than me saving her life that day," she said.

The Sunstar crew had to keep their composure while working directly with Ireland. But after the fact, it's another story entirely. Christopher Jennings says he leaned on co-workers in the days after the accident to cope with what he witnessed.

Bayflite crew members and Paramedics signed a cast on Ireland's arm and gave her family a tour of the Bayflite chopper that took her to the hospital.

There are many triumphs to achieve, but her family is confident Ireland is up for the challenge.
