Openly gay youths will now be allowed to join scouting.
More than 60-percent of the Boy Scouts of America's 14-hundred-members voted for the historic policy change today.
It will take effect January 1.
The approved resolution says, "no youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone."
The vote followed months of intense debate among interest groups and within the ranks of scouting itself.
The BSA will maintain its ban on gay adult leaders.
