Water skiers compete at Callaway Gardens

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -

The best water skiers in the world are at Callaway Gardens this weekend for the Masters Water Skiing Competition.

Skiers are trying to land the longest jump that they can. They are competing against their opponents and the conditions.

"If I come through the ramp with a lot of speed and line drive it, the wind will just pick me up and carry me far," said Dorian Llewellyn, one of the skiers. "That's exactly what I tried to do."

And while this looks like a fun ride, it can end very painfully. The best of the best congregate at Callaway Gardens to ride on water.

We are talking about the best water skiers from around the world. People from Germany, Sweden, the United Kingdom, we have seen people from all those places. It's only Friday. This goes through Sunday.

The skiers get three chances for each competition. The difference between success and failure is only a few feet.

"I was coming up here saying, 'I don't know how anyone throws their fists up when they jump," Llewellyn said. "You are never sure how far you jump. I just threw the fists. It just felt so good."

And if you are the champion, the ride feels like it never stops.

"To win overall in the first round," said Llewellyn. "That was awesome. Just to have a huge jumps, it makes you feel good."

These are the best juniors around the world. They are hoping to join the ranks of the professionals in the future.

The professionals get in the water throughout the weekend. The competitions end on Sunday.
