Need for Speed is filming next week on the 13th street bridge but commuters may not be going so fast.
"What happens is where motorists have to start to turn onto the detour on Veterans and on Broad Street those will experience congestion and of course they'll experience some detours," says Ron Hamlett, Traffic Engineering Manager.
Phenix city Mayor Eddie Lowe says the inconvenience of the bridge closing is worth it. He says it will bring recognition to the area which could result in more revenue in the future. Melanie Johnson, a Columbus Resident, agrees.
She says, "We think anything like that is good to promote our area and we're just really looking forward to it."
The Traffic Engineering Department says on average 27,000 cars cross the bridge every day.
Traffic signs have been placed around the area to remind drivers that they'll need to find an alternative route.
Johnson says her husband owns a business on 13th street and is already planning for next week.
"We're having to look at some different ways for him to get around but we're off for the summer so we'll just stay on the other side," Johnson says.
The Traffic Department is also urging people to plan ahead.
"People need to sit down and think about that week and how you can adjust your route so it doesn't impact you as much," says Ron Hamlett.
