Cutbait rapid closed temporarily for safety concerns

Posted: Updated:

Whitewater Express and Uptown Columbus, Inc. are addressing potential safety issues, after the Chattahoochee whitewater rapid Cutbait dumped about 70 rafters and guides into the river Sunday.

Our media partner The Ledger-Enquirer reports the rapid was closed Thursday to commercial rafting.

The event was uploaded by an onlooker to Youtube. No injuries were reported as Cutbait toppled 10 of 17 rafts at high-flow.

Whitewater Express owner Dan Gilbert says he will not send boats through Cutbait until he was comfortable potential safety issues had been addressed.

Uptown Columbus, Inc. president Richard Bishop says the rapid would be closed until "we can run it again and run it safely."

The decision to not run Cutbait at high flow does not impact low-flow runs. High-flow trips will continue with customers running the WaveShaper rapid twice.
