Georgia Tech to start junior Isaacs in regional opener

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Georgia Tech will start junior right-hander Dusty Isaacs in Friday's regional-opening game against Illinois.

Danny Hall announced the move after the Yellow Jackets' practice in Nashville on Thursday.

"We felt like that was our best way to go to win the tournament," Hall said. "We're trusting him a lot to give us a great outing in the first game of the regional, and I'm fully confident that he's going to do that."

Isaacs is 4-7 with a 4.77 ERA in 15 starts this season. The move saves ace Buck Farmer for either a potential clinching game three, or a must-win game two.

Friday's game is the fourth meeting all-time between Georgia Tech and Illinois, and the first since 1930. The Yellow Jackets are 3-1 all-time.

Number two national seed Vanderbilt will face East Tennessee State in the second game of the Nashville regional.
