Reports: UGA to hire Kent State's Stricklin as baseball coach

Posted: Updated:

The University of Georgia is close to hiring Kent State head baseball coach Scott Stricklin to replace Dave Perno.

That according to Saturday reports from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Stricklin has agreed in principle to take over the Bulldogs' program, according to the article, and an official announcement is expected Monday or Tuesday.

The 41-year-old has spent the last nine seasons at his alma mater at Kent State, guiding the Golden Flashes to five Mid-American Conference titles, five NCAA regional appearances, and one College World Series berth, last season.

Kent State was 350-188 in nine years under Stricklin.

He would replace Perno, who was dismissed earlier this month after 12 years as Georgia's head coach. The Bulldogs finished this season 21-32 overall, and last in the SEC at 7-20.
