Malzahn makes Tiger Trek stop in Eufaula

EUFAULA, Ala. -

Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn was in Eufaula Tuesday night for the latest stop in his first Tiger Trek as Auburn's head man.

Appearing before a packed house only further exemplified the excitement surrounding Malzahn in his first season as head coach on the Plains.

While at Auburn as offensive coordinator, Malzahn recruited a number of the players on the current roster, meaning they are familiar with his hurry-up, no-huddle, up-tempo style of play.

But Malzahn said even so, there's been an adjustment period.

"Anytime you change offensive philosophies, it takes awhile for your players, even if you recruited guys to play a certain offense," Malzahn said. "Early in the spring you could tell that, but we got better and better. Our guys started understanding the pace that we needed probably midway through the spring. We've still got some work to do, but I like the direction we're going."

Malzahn and the Tigers open the season at home Aug. 31 against Washington State.
