Ward pleads not guilty to point-shaving charges

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -

Former Auburn point guard Varez Ward entered a plea of not guilty to two counts of sports bribery and conspiracy Thursday morning in a Montgomery courtroom.

Ward was indicted late last month on charges he offered to pay fellow Auburn players to throw a Jan. 25, 2012 game against Arkansas.

The player did not speak on Thursday, instead letting his attorneys enter the plea for him. The defense will seek a jury trial.

Ward's trial date was set for July 22.
