Vitamin Factory opens in Opelika

Posted: Updated:

Opelika officially welcomed the Nature Made vitamin factory to the city Friday.

Pharmavite has already provided 245 jobs for the people in Opelika. We found out that this is the start of what they hope is a long and growing relationship.

Nature Made says they try to inspire you to be the healthiest that you can be. Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller hopes the new jobs at Pharmavite do the same thing for the city's economy.

"245 of our people working here, making those great Nature Made products," said Mayor Fuller. "Folks, if that is not your preferred brand, it should be. I had a big handful of them this morning. I'm feeling strong!"

The mayor was joined by Pharmavite and state officials at the grand opening of the Opelika plant. The plant will produce 60 millions units of vitamins a year.

"Up to now, Nature Made production has been principally on the west coast," said Pharmavite CEO Doug MacLean. "This is our first time to move to the east, to Alabama. We will now be able to service our east coast customers better than ever before."

Both the company and Opelika expect this to be a long relationship that increases jobs in the future.

Even though this Pharmavite factory is new in Opelika, they are already talking about expansion plans and possibly even unveiling a new product in the next 18 months.

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley presented Pharmavite with an Alabama flag to make them feel at home. He says the rest of Alabama could learn from Opelika.

"This is a very progressive area of the state. I spend a lot of time in Lee County. We have a lot of people here that work very hard," said Governor Bentley.

Pharmavite picked Opelika for the plant two years ago. Now, they are part of the industrial family of Lee County.

Pharmavite says 20 more people will be hired by the end of the year. You need to apply online if you are interested.

You should go to their website at
where you can apply for any available jobs.

Opelika was one of fifty cities around the country vying for the Pharmavite plant.
