The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 81 and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers at West Point Lake are conducting personal watercraft and boating safety courses at the West Point Project Management Office.
The course will be held June 18 and 20 from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. EST.
The course will give information on legal boating requirements, navigation rules, preventing personal watercraft and boating accidents, and new boating laws.
After completing the course, participants will receive a certificate from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
For residents of Alabama, this certificate will exempt them from taking the written exam when obtaining an Alabama boating license.
This course is also beneficial for Georgia residents.
It meets Georgia's law that requires completion of a safe boating course for persons age 12-15 who wish to operate a personal watercraft or boat without adult supervision.
A maximum of 40 participants can register for the course on a first come, first served basis.
There is a $15.00 fee associated with the course.
To pre-register call the West Point Project Management Office at 706-645-2937.
