Brain scans help treat depression

Posted: Updated:

Brain scans may give doctors a clearer picture on how to treat people with depression.

A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association finds patients who show a lot of activity in a certain part of the brain are more likely to benefit from anti-depressants. But people who have low activity in that area are better off with psychotherapy.

Researchers say if the findings are confirmed, the scans could play an important role in the treatment of depression.
