DOD furloughs hit Fort Bragg civilian employees

As impending furloughs of Department of the Army civilians and funding reductions across the Department of Defense begin to take effect, Fort Bragg leaders have announced the following impacts to services provided to the Fort Bragg community.

The following services will be affected by sequestration and the furlough of civilian employees. These services will not be available on Fridays, beginning July 12 though Sept. 30.

  • Army Community Services
  • Soldier and Family Assistance Center
  • Drug Testing
  • Army Substance Abuse Prevention Centers
  • Military Personnel Office (Including official passports)
  • Identification Card Center
  • Department of Defense Schools (Five days of teacher furlough beginning in August)
  • Housing Referral and Residential Communities Initiative offices
  • DA photo lab
  • Training Support Center
  • Force Modernization office
  • Classified Material Destruction Facility
  • Flight Simulators
  • Visual Information and Multimedia
  • Garrison Command and Business offices
  • Stray Animal Facility
  • Throckmorton Library
  • Central Vehicle Wash Facility
  • Non-housing trash collection and landfill operations
  • Call –for- Fire Trainers
  • Soldier Readiness Center
  • Pest Management
  • Recycling Operations
  • Range Operations, scheduling and maintenance will be closed Fridays beginning 12 July
  • No custodial in Garrison facilities
  • No Facility Maintenance response
  • No Self-help orders received or issued
  • No post-wide Police Call (in grounds)

Services affected on days other than Fridays

  • Simmons and MacKall Army Airfields (closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday)
  • Installation shuttle (reduced services)
  • Commissaries (closed on Mondays)
  • McKellars Range (no shooting on Sundays)
  • Range Control and Fire Desk will be closed from Saturdays at midnight through Sundays at 8 a.m., beginning 14 July. No training will be conducted during this time.

Impacts on Medical Services

  • Womack Army Medical Center Main Outpatient Pharmacy closed Sundays (beginning July 14)
  • Refill Distribution Center Pharmacy closed Saturdays at noon (beginning July 13)
  • The  Post Exchange Pharmacy will close from 1 to 2 p.m. (beginning July 8)
  • WAMC's outlying clinics will close Fridays from July 8 to September 30, 2013. Clinics include Clark Health Clinic, Joel Health and Dental Clinic, Robinson Health Clinic, Troop and Family Medical Clinic, Fayetteville Medical Home and Hope Mills Medical Home.
  • WAMC Residency Clinic will operate as a consolidated clinic on Fridays beginning July 8. Patients must call 910-907-2778 to make appointments and call 910-907-2625 to cancel appointments. Patients may also schedule or cancel appointments though the TRICARE website at www.tricareonline.com
  • Fort Bragg dental clinics will be closed Fridays from July 12, 2013, through September 30, 2013. Dental emergencies will be treated at Davis and Laflamme Dental Clinics during furlough days. Contact Davis Dental Clinic at 432-4227/6190/6126and Laflamme Dental Clinic 432-8170.
