Body Found Behind Columbus Church

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

Columbus police are investigating the death of a man found behind a church Wednesday.

57-year-old David Rutherford was discovered behind Ward Chapel AME Church on Talbotton Road just before 6 p.m.

Investigators have ruled his death a homicide and are looking around his house on 28th street, where they believe he may have been killed.

One of Rutherford's friends tells News 3 that a neighbor found car keys in Rutherford's yard, which was a red flag.

The body will be examined in Atlanta to determine a cause of death.

The investigation continues and News 3 and WRBL.com will have more on this story as information becomes available.
