CSU's Teschner signs contract with Rangers

Former Columbus State University baseball player Brett Teschner has signed a free agent contract with the Texas Rangers.

Teschner has been assigned to the AZL Rangers of the Arizona Rookie League and will report to Surprise, Arizona.

A two-year standout for the Cougars, Teschner wrapped up his playing career this past spring for CSU. He played in all 52 games splitting time between the catcher and designated hitter position. Teschner sported a .333 batting average which included 25 extra-base hits. The Loganville native was second on the team with 54 RBIs and crossed the plate 37 times.

Teschner had one of the best single-game performances in Peach Belt Conference history in the second game of a March 16 doubleheader against Montevallo. He had a 5-for-5 performance including becoming just the 11th player in PBC history to hit three homeruns in a single game. It was the first time a CSU player did the feat in over eight years.

Teschner is the second Columbus State player this summer to join a MLB organization as Cameron Griffin was drafted by the New York Mets. Griffin is currently with the GCL Mets located in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
