ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL) -

UPDATE: 

Elizabethton Police have identified the victim who died after they fell off a Carter County bridge Saturday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as William Lee Parrott, Sr. , 61, of Elizabethton.

Police say he was traveling east bound on Highway 67 on a Huffy 48cc Motorized Bicycle when he lost control and struck the bridge guardrail. The victim then went over the guardrail where he fell to the railroad bed below.

There are no indications that drugs or alcohol are contributing factors to the incident.

Parrott was not wearing a helmet.

 


 

6/29/13: A man is now dead after police say he lost control of his motorized bike, and struck a guard rail Saturday afternoon.

The Elizabethton Police Department say one of their officers came upon the motorized bike leaning on a guard rail. The officer then pulled over to investigate. Upon closer inspection, the officer saw the victim face down on railroad tracks below. The individual was pronounced dead on the scene. The victim's name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

Police say a preliminary investigation shows the victim was traveling eastbound on Highway 67 on a Huffy 48cc Motorized Bicycle when he/she lost control, crashed into the guard rail, and was thrown over. Police say no one else was injured.

There are no indications that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors to the incident. The victim was not wearing a helmet.

Investigation is ongoing at this time. We'll continue to bring you more updates as they become available.
