COLUMBUS, GA -

Police have charged a man in Friday's murder in Phenix City, our media partner the Ledger Enquirer reports. Curtis Newsome is suspected of killing his girlfriend Caneya Webb.

"I know I'm going to get through it with the grace of God but I'm very numb right now," the victim's mother Latunja Webb told News 3 Saturday. "She called me everyday to check on me and see how I was doing and if I needed anything. I would just pick up the phone and call her and she would be right there for me."

The 26-year-old was found dead in her Phenix City apartment Friday afternoon. She was the oldest of five children and had three children of her own.

Caneya's mother says she has no idea why her daughter's boyfriend would want to hurt her.

The funeral for Webb will be Friday.

Newsome, 28, was arrested in Troup County and expected to be brought back to Phenix City to face charges.
