COLUMBUS, Ga. -

A new rapid on the Columbus Whitewater course could possibly open on July 4th. Richard Bishop with Uptown Columbus said there are still a few things to iron out.

Nick-named "Ambush" the rapid would complete the 2.5 mile course, which is considered the world's longest urban Whitewater course. The rapid also creates a wider pool behind it that will serve as a launching for rafters.

The new rapid is south of the North Highland Dam and is the official start point for the course.

Bishop said rafters will get an extra treat at the beginning of the ride to help build up anticipation.

Six-hundred cubic feet of rocks were used to create the new rapid.
