iPhone video captures moments after a very tense situation on the water Monday afternoon. A police boat returns to the dock, moments later a larger boat is seen towing a smaller boat. A calm scene, with a safe ending thanks to the sharp eye of David Wesson. While riding a Ski Doo, Wesson noticed something at The Fairhope Yacht Club. "I saw the officers running toward the pier and pulled up and officer said, 'I need you to take me to the boat out here...got a kid hung in a prop.' I took him out there and gave him my life vest and he cut him loose, but the thing was so tight around his leg it had his leg like from right here..like that", said Wesson.
"It appears we had three juveniles out boating pulling
a tuber, and the tuber got caught up in the prop", said Alabama Marine Police Captain Anthony Roney.
From the yacht club, people could see the tuber in trouble. "The kids were all worried, and our hearts went out to him", said Lisa Claybaugh.
The good samaritan feared the boy might go in shock and die. "The girls in the boat, they were like 14..something like that. And they were pulling him on a little raft, and they were holding each other...and praying. They thought his leg was going to be cut off", said Wesson.
A medic freed the boy's shorts from the from the propeller. The blades cut into his leg, though injuries didn't appear limb threatening. But, the scene witnessed by youngsters left quite an impression. "We came down to the dock, and we saw him being picked up and he came down and he got cut right there...he kind of...leaned up and looked at us", said Asher Abbot.
