Test for risk of postpartum depression

Posted: Updated:

A simple blood test may be able to determine a mother's chances of suffering from depression after giving birth.
Researchers at Warwick University in the U-K say the test – given early in pregnancy - can identify faulty stress genes that increase a new mom's risk.
A study found women with those genes are three to five times more likely to have postpartum depression.
The early detection allows doctors to treat the problem before symptoms set in.
