Police: Teen Shot Columbus Woman in Leg on Dearborn Ave.

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

A 15-year-old has been arrested after shooting a Columbus woman Friday morning.

The victim, whose name was not released, told police she went outside her home shortly after 4 a.m. et to close her car door. She thought her or her husband had accidentally left the door open. As she exited her home and approached her vehicle she noticed someone was inside. The teenager exited the car and pointed a pistol at her demanding she "get down on the ground." She was in the process of getting on the ground when the suspect shot her in her left leg. The suspect then fled the area in an unknown direction.

The suspect, whose name was not released because he is underage, was located and arrested a short time later.

He is facing three charges in connection to the shooting and five additional charges in connection to other burglaries he committed that night. The charges include: Aggravated Assault of a Person over 65, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime, Possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes, and five counts of Possession of a Crime by a Person under 18. Burglary 2nd Degree.

The teen is set for a preliminary court hearing Monday at 2:30 p.m.
