Jacksonville man hit with additional sex charges

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -

A Jacksonville man arrested on sexual assault charges after police discovered the crime in progress has been hit with additional charges.

The suspect, 21-year-old Curtis Ray Gates, Jr., was charged with Second Degree Sexual Offense, First Degree Kidnapping and Crime Against Nature for the July 14th incident that occurred in the parking area of the Northwoods Shopping Center. He's now facing seven additional charges stemming from four incidents of assaults that occurred between February 2 through July 9, 2013.

Gates is an active duty Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune.

"Subsequent to his arrest, the joint investigation by JPD Investigative Services and NCIS Sexual Assault Task Force provided evidence to charge Gates in four other open investigations of sexual assault in the City" said Captain Jason Bettis about the new charges..

Gates is the Onslow County Jail under a $1 million dollar secured bond.
