GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Police say the shooting of a 20-year-old man in Greenville was a gang crime.

Investigators said 17-year-old Deon Daniels was charged with murder in the shooting death early Saturday morning of 20-year-old Quastepheon Hardison. Daniels turned himself in later Sunday.

Authorities said Hardison's body was found in the street around 2:30 a.m. after officers were called about shots being fired. Police said the two men were in rival gangs.

Police say Daniels was released from jail on bond in June and has a number of unrelated pending charges against him including possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, trespassing and resisting a public officer.
