JOHNSON CITY, TN  - As part of a global initiative to give back to the communities where Kennametal employees live and work, the Kennametal Foundation today presented a $25,000 check to Second Harvest Food Bank.

"At Kennametal, giving back to the community through volunteerism is an important part of our culture.  I am proud of the many Kennametal employees who already dedicate their time in the communities where they live," said Carlos Cardoso, chairman, president and CEO.  "We are pleased to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank as part of our Kennametal in the Community program.  The Kennametal in the Community program is an important way for us to help make a difference by pairing financial support with volunteerism."

The Kennametal Foundation grant was based on the tremendous efforts of the Kennametal employees who have spent the past year contributing their time to provide healthy snacks and lunches to economically disadvantaged children and their families.

"Kennametal Johnson City was instrumental in helping to secure this national donation for Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee.  The contribution will go towards the renovation of a new, larger facility, which will help feed the hungry in our region," states Rhonda Chafin, Executive Director of Second Harvest.  "Kennametal participates in the Food Bank's 360° program providing volunteers, food and monetary donations to help with the Food Bank's mission. We sincerely appreciate Kennametal's ongoing support."

Beginning in September 2012, Kennametal employees spent more than 40 hours organizing local food and peanut butter drives while also volunteering at Second Harvest programs such as The Food for Kids Backpack Programs, which provides healthy snacks and lunches to more than 4,374 economically disadvantaged students at no cost to their families or school.  Kennametal employees were able to collect more than 62 lbs. of peanut butter, adding to the 445 lbs. of food collected during three separate food drives organized by the employees.
