Georgia power is rolling out an interactive program where customers can stay informed when bad weather strikes. It's called the power outage map and will show users exactly where power outages are happening and how long it will take to restore power in that area.
Robert Watkins at Georgia Power says it will make planning during loss of power much easier.
"It's not going to be an exact science but it will be a much easier way to access information about what's going on with your outage," said Watkins. The map is available on your smart phone, tablet, or home computer. It's updated every 10 minutes and can help provide a weather map.
Georgia Power still urges customers to call when their power goes out because they get information for the map that way.
