MARION COUNTY, Ga. -

Summer is one of the toughest times of the year on our wallets. We often crank up our air conditioning and watch the temperature drop but our power bills rise. New solar farms may be one solution.

Inman Solar and Marion County have agreed to build two solar farms in Marion County as a part of a statewide expansion of solar power.

The new farms will be a part of Georgia Power's Advanced Solar Initiative. Earlier this month, the Public Service Commission voted to expand the utility's solar operation.

Thomas Kyte, an administrator in Marion County, says it's a huge honor, that of the 34 panels coming to Georgia, 2 of them will be in Marion County. He says it's a step forward for the area.

"As we know right now, the way the economy's been all over the United States of America this is just another step forward in bettering ourselves and bettering our country," says Kyte.

The solar farms will bring the county between $20,000 and $30,000 in tax revenue a year, according to Kyte. The panels are being installed on a 30-acre piece of land located near the Georgia Power substation on Pineville Rd.

Kyte says the Atlanta-based company has an impressive resume, building over 30 solar projects across the United States. He says he's glad they're able to add Marion County to that list of projects.

Construction will begin by the end of August and is expected to be completed in 6 to 8 weeks.
