Aaron Murray is a QB and coach

Posted: Updated:

The Georgia Bulldogs began fall camp Thursday. It is the first day for coaches to be on the field with their players. But, while Mark Richt wasn't with the team this summer, another coach was.

Aaron Murray has become a great quarterback and leader at UGA. Coming in this season, he has one more title: coach.

"Yeah it gets tough, it was still fun," Murray said. "It was a pleasure working with our guys this year. They were so cooperative and working hard pretty much all off season."

Murray has a chance to shatter UGA and SEC passing records. But, his coach says his character, not his stats, is what makes him the leaders that he is.

"Just a sincere desire to help his teammates learn as well and help them understand the benefit of it. And be willing to put the work in. You don't find many guys like that," said Georgia Coach Mark Richt.

With fall practice beginning, Murray can focus more on being a quarterback and not a coach.

If any player has been ready for fall practice to begin, it might be ‘Coach Murray.' As he told Mark Richt, the whole coaching thing isn't as easy as you might think.

"Coach Murray was great," said Richt. "We were flying to Hoover for SEC Media Days. He said, I can't wait til camp starts because this coaching is killing me."

With two experienced running backs and a flashy crop of receivers, Aaron Murray looks primed to have a stellar final season in Athens.

"Coach Murray has been doing a good job," said wide receiver Chris Conley. "He has been a real vocal leader. He also leads by example. He has done that and every year he has been here. The young guys really look up to him. They know he has made plays on this stage and he knows what it takes."

Murray says the Dawgs are in great shape going into the season. They just hope they are in great shape after December as well.
