Patriots preaching physical play

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

On the first day of full pads practices in Georgia, Northside High School looked like a new team.

Under former assistant Morgan Ingram, now in his first year as head coach, the Patriots are all about one word: physicality.

"I like a physical brand of football," Ingram said. "We're going to line up and go straight at people and so some things like that. Instead of sideline to sideline, we're more north and south."

Ingram inherits a team with just one winning season in nine years of varsity football, and just two wins total in 2012. But he also has a senior quarterback in Jonathan Karastury who has been through the rigors of region 1-AAAAA.

"We feel good about this year coming up," Karastury said. "We feel strong about our personnel in there, and just everything feels good this year."

Northside opens the season Aug. 29 against Shaw.
