PHENIX CITY, Ala. -

A Russell County sheriff's deputy hospitalized after a fatal Columbus crash Tuesday has been released from the hospital.

Deputy Brad Evans was placed into a medically induced coma after the undercover police pickup truck he was riding in crashed into a utility pole on Veterans Parkway in Columbus.

Evans, who awoke from the coma yesterday, was released from the hospital Friday morning, according to Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor. Evans will be recovering at home and will be off work for an undisclosed amount of time.

Funeral services for Columbus Police Department Corporal Keith Slay, who was also riding in the vehicle at the time of the crash, will be held Monday.
