A Columbus fugitive who has escaped arrest for seven months has been arrested in Florida. Twenty-seven-year-old Brandon Reese was taken into custody Friday morning around 7 a.m. by the United States Marshals Service Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force Tampa Division. He was found at a condo in Crystal Beach Florida.

Reese was wanted for multiple federal state and local warrants, including: Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution, two (2) Violation of Probation, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and numerous misdemeanor warrants.

Back in January, Reese fled from a gas station on Macon Road after Muscogee County Sheriff deputies were approaching the car he had been driving. Police said passenger Darius Upshaw got into the driver's seat and hit the two law enforcement officers while trying to flee the scene. Upshaw was arrested shortly after the incident.

Meanwhile, police were trying to locate Reese and that led to a hours-long search in a nearby home where he had been living and was believed to be holed-up. He was not there, but police found several weapons and marijuana.

On January 16, a federal warrant was issued for Reese's arrest after it was believed he had left the local jurisdiction. When the federal arrest warrant was issued the fugitive investigation was turned over to the United States Marshals Service Columbus Division and a nationwide manhunt began. The U.S. Marshals Service Columbus Division developed information that directed their attention to the "Sunshine State". U.S. Marshals Service in Florida was contacted by Columbus Deputy U.S. Marshals and the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force Tampa Division was requested.

Reese has appeared before a federal judge is awaiting extradition back to Columbus.

Multiple agencies were involved in the manhunt, including: the Columbus Police Department, Muscogee County Sheriff's Office, Metro Narcotics Unit, U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force.
