Westville and Columbus reach agreement for relocation

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The Columbus City Council voted unanimously to accept a memorandum of agreement between the Historic Westville Living Museum and the city of Columbus.

Westville had been looking to relocate from Lumpkin, Ga. for about a year because of declining attendance. They officially agreed with Columbus today after also looking at other potential sites like Atlanta and Stone Mountain.

Mike Bunn, the Chairman on the Westville Board, anticipates the move to occur within the two years.

Last year, the living museum drew about 13,000 visitors. Bunn expects that number to double or even triple once they move to Columbus. He says about half of their visitors already come from Columbus and Phenix City.

Some Lumpkin residents have raised their concern about the move, they don't believe Westville can succeed in a city like Columbus.

The site they're planning on moving to is a 35-acre site near Oxbow Meadows on South Lumpkin Road.
