A second suspect has been arrested in connection with two armed robberies in July near Sarah P. Duke Gardens.

Denshawn Thompson, 20, was arrested shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Red Roof Inn on North Pointe Drive in Durham by the U.S. Marshals Service's Violent Fugitive Task Force.

Denshawn Thompson is charged with four counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and other crimes in connection with a July 15 robbery. He is also charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of second-degree kidnapping and one count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with a July 25 robbery.

On Aug. 1, police arrested 20-year-old Tamisha Thompson during a traffic stop on North Roxboro Road near Old Oxford Highway. She faces the same charges for the July robberies.

Police said Tamisha and Denshawn Thompson robbed individuals near the Lewis Street entrance to the gardens on July 15 and July 25.

During the July 25 robbery, the victims say a male approached and asked to use one victim's phone. When she refused, the male pulled a gun and demanded the phone. The male suspect as well as a female suspect then fled with the victim's phone.

Tamisha Thompson is in the Durham County Jail under a $2.5 million bond and Denshawn Thompson is in Durham County Jail under a $3 million bond.
