Knights welcome expectations in 2013

COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The Calvary Christian Knights know they will not sneak up on any teams this year.

Especially not after a final four appearance in 2012.

"We feel a lot better than we have in the past," said senior tight end/free safety Joshua Mixon. "In the past, it's been, we're going to sneak up on teams. This year, we know we're not going to be able to sneak up on anyone after the final four run last year."

Head coach Brian Osborne is in his third year at the helm, and the familiarity his players have with him is all the difference.

"We're a lot further ahead, being the third year of our program," Osborne said. "Our guys are picking up on our offense and defense a lot quicker, so we're not going two or three weeks learning one or two plays, we've got pretty much our whole offense in before our first game this Friday, so we're going at a faster pace, it's helping us out a lot."

Osborne boasts senior Adam Gray at quarterback, and the coach is excited about his signal caller's arm, though he still says the Knights will run the ball "90 percent of the time."

"We have actually six guys we're rotating in (at running back), but none of these guys played last year," Osborne said. "We have zero returning yardage from our running backs, but we have six guys that can carry the rock, so we're rotating guys like crazy."

The Knights will travel to Sherwood Christian for a scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 16, then they open the season at home the following week against Unity Christian.
