NTSB on the way to Birmingham to investigate UPS cargo plane crash

The NTSB confirmed a go-team is on their way to Birmingham to investigate the plane crash.

At a press conference around 8:40 a.m., NTSB confirmed that the team would leave from Washington International Airport in a matter of minutes, in order to land in Birmingham around 11 a.m. local time.

An investigator from Atlanta is also en route to help the investigation.

Senior Aviation Investigator Dan Bower will lead the investigation here in Birmingham accompanied by experts in air traffic control, human performance, aircraft performance, systems and many other disciplines.

NTSB Transportation Disaster Assistance representatives will also respond to aid in family-related m matters.

Without having seen the plane yet, the NTSB said they're unsure whether black boxes will be recovered.

"We have a good success rate with recovering the recorders. I'm optimistic that we will be able to."
