Playoffs again the goal for the Marion County Eagles

Posted: Updated:

The Marion County Eagles enter every season with the weight of postseason expectations on their shoulders.

It comes with the territory after four straight playoff appearances and either winning or sharing the region title for the last three.

It will take some younger players stepping up on the offensive side of the ball to do it in 2013.

"We have six offensive starters to replace, so we've been concentrating a lot on our offensive line," said head coach Mike Swaney. "We have a lot of skill people back, so offensive and defensive lines have been the main concerns so far."

On the flip side, the defense is experienced, with nine returning starters, led by senior linebacker Brandon Green.

"I try to tell my teammates, the young guys, to come in, step hard, play hard," Green said. "That will help us out."

The Eagles play in the always-difficult region 4-A, and that is the case again this season.

"We feel good, but we know we have a tough schedule," Swaney said. "We have four or five key positions that have to really step up and come through. If they come through, we're going to be really competitive."

Marion County opens the season on the road Aug. 30 against Terrell County.
