New information on pilots who died in UPS plane crash

UPS has released new information on the two pilots who died after a plane crashed just short of the runway at the Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport.

Captain Cerea Beal, Jr. and First Officer Shanda Fanning were killed in the crash that happened Wednesday.

Captain Beal had worked with UPS since 1990. He also served in the Marines as a heavy lift helicopter pilot. Beal was a resident of Matthews, N.C. He was 58 years old.

First Officer Fanning is described as an aviation enthusiast. The Lynchburg, TN resident had worked with UPS since 2006. She was 37 years old.

Investigators are still trying to figure out the cause of the crash.

Late Thursday evening UPS released the following statement:

"The UPS Family Assistance Team is providing support to the crew members' families during this difficult time.  The entire UPS family sends our condolences and will keep the Beal and Fanning families in our thoughts and prayers."
