Dufner speaks to football team, still no QB

AUBURN, Ala. -

Auburn held their final two-a-day of camp Thursday, working out in the morning and afternoon at the Auburn Athletics Complex.

Before practice, PGA champion Jason Dufner addressed the team, speaking on mental toughness.

"You guys can learn a little bit from my story," Dufner , who walked on to the Auburn golf team in 1995, said. "Obviously, golf's not quite the level you are, physically, with football, but I think you can learn from different peoples' stories. You guys inspire me to be great and I hope I can inspire you guys to be great."

Talk of the quarterback situation dominated Gus Malzahn's post-practice news conference. The coach said a decision could come as soon as after Saturday's scrimmage.

"Ideally, it would have been a week ago, and you get three weeks [before the first game]," Malzahn said. "The earlier the better will help."

Quarterback is not the only position still up in the air, only the most visible. Malzahn sounded very much like a coach who plans to have a finalized depth chart after Saturday.

"We got a lot of stuff figured out now, but there's still a few little question marks," he said. "Not very many, but there's still a few that we'll try to answer. Then, of course, that'll be two weeks before the first game, so you'd like to have the pieces of the puzzle in place."

Auburn will scrimmage at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday, two weeks before the season opener at home against Washington State.
