Auburn ends preseason with "best rhythm"

AUBURN, Ala. -

According to Gus Malzahn, the Auburn Tigers saved their best for last.

The coach told the offense following Tuesday's preseason-camp-ending practice that the unit had the best rhythm Malzahn had seen since he came back.

Tuesday was the 21st practice since Aug. 2, with the Tigers taking a day off Wednesday as classes begin at Auburn. Then, it's on to week one.

"We're pretty much all full force into Washington State," Malzahn said. "We'll start getting our weekly routine, but the good thing is we have some extra time to prepare. I think that's very good, having a starting quarterback, especially [one who] didn't go through spring. We need that extra time."

Both Malzahn and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee have praised Nick Marshall for increased "urgency" and "leadership" since being named the starter. It seems like the urgency is affecting the team as well.

"Coach Malzahn says it's a new day, I really do feel like It's a new day," said sophomore linebacker Cassanova McKinzy. "Coming together as a team, playing together as a team, it's a big part of winning."

After Thursday, Auburn will practice again Friday, and possibly Saturday.
