RALEIGH, N.C. -

Police say the suspect in an assault and his victim are missing after the two left the location of the assault separately.

The Raleigh Police Department is seeking public assistance as it works to identify and locate a female assault victim and a male assault suspect.

Police say the man and woman entered the Sheetz gas station at 5200 New Bern Ave. around 12:15 a.m. on Aug. 20, when the man began to assault the woman by hitting and kicking her.

The man then forced the woman into a restroom, where police believe the assault continued.

When the suspect emerged from the bathroom, he was wearing what appeared to be the shirt the victim was wearing when she first entered the gas station. He then left the store and was last seen walking west on New Bern Ave.

Police say that despite sustaining obvious injuries to her head, the victim left the store a short time later in a dark-colored sedan.

Neither the victim nor the suspect was located by responding officers.

The suspect is described as a black male about 6 feet tall who appears to be in his 20s.

The victim is a white female with a medium build who stands about 5 feet 4 inches tall. She had blonde hair and was described as possibly being in her 30s.

Anyone with information that might assist the investigation of the case should call Raleigh CrimeStoppers at (919) 834-HELP.
