Woman charged fatal Durham pedestrian collision

DURHAM, N.C. -

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a 22-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a fatal accident on Aug. 5 in Durham.

Elizabeth Ekberg, of Bahama, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision, authorities said.

Authorities said Brian Gene Long, 30, of Genesee Road in Durham, was killed after Ekberg struck him while he was walking in the southbound lane of travel on Guess Road. Ekber was driving a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee,

Police said Long died at the scene.

Kristen McLaughlin of Genesee Road in Durham, was walking on the shoulder of the roadway and sustained non-life threatening injuries.
