Deputies: 'intruder' shot in Durham home invasion

Posted: Updated:
DURHAM, N.C. -

The Durham Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide after a man was killed during a home invasion.

Deputies are on the scene at a home on Stoney Creek Circle where investigators say one man is dead.

Authorities say they are looking for Carlos Hernandez. They believe he is the man who fled the scene after the incident.

Paul Sherwin with the Durham County Sheriff's Office says investigators believe the person who was shot and killed was an intruder. Authorities say it appears the victim broke in through the back door and struggled with one of the occupants at the home before he was shot in the neck.

Investigators are unclear if the man who shot the intruder lives at the home. It appears the intruder may have known one or more of the occupants of the home.

Authorities have identified the victim, but are not releasing the name at this time,

Four people were in the home at the time of the incident.

The sheriff's office is asking that Hernandez contact them at 919-560-0880 so they can interview him and hear his side of what happened.
