New students pour into 4-story Rolesville High

ROLESVILLE, N.C. -

The bell rang at 7:26 a.m. sharp on Monday morning as the new Rolesville High School roared to life in Wake County.

A parade of cars dropped off more than 600 ninth and 10th graders, and all the buses arrived on time and without any issues.

The four-story school has a capacity of 2,200 students, but only ninth and 10th graders are attending this year.

Administrators say the average class size is 30 students.

Principal Ericka Lucas said the teachers and administrators are "making sure that kids are focused and settled in their classes.

"That's our main thing today and probably for the next couple days is making sure we get to know our kids."

The new school cost $75 million. Planning began in July 2010 and construction began in 2011. The building of the school was part of a capital improvement plan that was funded in November 2006 when Wake County voters passed a $970 million school construction bond.

It's Wake County's first four-story high school.

The school nickname is the Rams.
