The body of a man pulled from the Chattahoochee River Sunday has been identified as John Attaway, the Muscogee County coroner confirms.
Attaway, 44, was initially identified using tattoos on his body. A woman who he had had a child with positively identified his remains for the medical examiner.
His wallet and car were recently found parked near the 13th Street Bridge in Phenix City. He is believed to have been living out of his car.
Attaway's remains were found Sunday near Oxford Meadows.
Attaway is believed to be the man a witness reports seeing swept away by the river on August 12.
