A woman killed during a Wednesday morning crash in Russell County was a teacher at Russell County High School, the school district confirms.
Wileatha Penda Brown, 40, died when her car was struck by a tractor-trailer along U.S. Highway 431 near Alabama 169 around 6 a.m., Alabama State Troopers say. Her 2008 Suzuki Forenza was pushed out of the southbound lanes and onto the adjacant grass by the truck, being driven by Michael Thompson, of Thomaston, Georgia. Thompson was not injured.
The southbound lanes of U.S. 431 were closed during much of the morning commute while Alabama State Troopers and Russell County Sheriff's deputies cleared the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
