$1.4 Million Confiscated From 18-Wheeler

BALDWIN COUNTY, ALABAMA -

On September 5, 2013, members of the Interstate Interdiction Task Force which consist of the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, Daphne Police Department, Mobile County Sheriff's Office, The Department of Public Safety and ICE Homeland Security Investigations, was conducting commercial motor vehicle inspections on I-65 in Baldwin County.  

At approximately 1 p.m., officers stopped a bob-tailed semi truck on south bound I-65 at the 38 mile marker.  During that inspection officers asked for a received permission to search the vehicle from the driver. 

During the search of the sleeper compartment (4) duffel bags was located.  Discovered inside  the bags was multiple individually cellophane wrapped bundles of cash was discovered.  The  driver advised he knew nothing of how the money got there or who it belonged to.  The money was confiscated and taken to a local bank for counting.  After counting, the total of the seized money was $ 1,444,726.00.  This money was turned over to ICE agents for forfeiture.

The investigation continues and additional information will be release at a later date as new or additional information become available.
