Goodbyes are never easy.
"He was a loving person, a giving person and he was like our brother, a brother we never had," said Cora Johnson.
Especially when they're unexpected.
"He was a really friendly guy, it was really a shock when I heard about somebody who would want to hurt a guy like that you know, he would give you his shirt of his back," said Daren Coleman.
Gary House was killed while fishing Tuesday along Halls Mill Road in Mobile. His family is left asking who would do this and why?
"Just a loss of words," said
House was loved by many.
"He was in the military and he always meant good. He didn't hang out with a lot of people and he always wanted to do good for the community," said Doris West.
"He just loved helping people and we hung out a lot. Me and him traveled together and everything. We were like sister and brother," said Johnson.
"He loved his family, he always talked about his family," said Coleman.
"He would do anything for people if he could and I know if he could have changed anything or gave up anything he had he would have. I know we love him and we're going to miss him and he will be missed," said Ethel House.
Mobile Police tell News 5 on Saturday that the investigation is still ongoing.
